Artist, Eleanor Antin, created curious narratives by placing 100 boots in various poses and places and photographing them. My students were working with the idea of recontextualization in another broader project, so I wanted them to try Antin’s boot practice as a way to think about this artistic tool.
I had groups of student plan and implement a series of “50 Shoe” installations as a means to tell wordless stories about their life in our school building. All the students took of their shoes and then. Groups of students took turns taking the shoes to different parts of the school for installing.
When they set up their piece, they came and got me to photograph it.
